Technical Writer

Description:
The Technical Writer will be responsible for logistics support activities, tasks and assignments. Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.

Primary Responsibilities
Techncial Writer is responsible for all phases of document generation (i.e. researching, writing, customer verification, incorporating verification updates and delivery via Config Management software)
Writes and updates payload and ground equipment technical publications, technical bulletins in both MIL-STD and Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) formats for operator through maintainer level manuals, supporting technical manual validations and verifications.
Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, engineers, logisticians, 2-D model animators, productions personnel and field technicians.
Research technical specifications, related program documents, engineering drawings, 3-D animations/job aids, an maintenance videos
Responsible for coordinating photo shoots, and coordinating with on-staff illustrator to develop original illustrations for manuals
Focus on end user needs to safely perform his/her job while protections the equipment from potential damage and ensuring equipment operation requirements
Available for limited travel to support IPS functions
Technical Writer will adhere to quality and safety standards

Required Experience & Skills
3-5 years of experience as a technical writer with integrated logistics background
Background in or understanding of hardware maintenance and all phases of logistics
Understanding of configuration management processes
2-3 years of experience using XML, and Arbortext
Demonstrated skills in ability to interpret engineering drawings to determine part data and parent-child relationships
Experience working with SolidWorks or other CAD software are a plus
Must be familiar with SolidWorks PDM or similar document upload/retrieval program
Possess strong computer skills in business software packages
Competent technical expertise in electrical, refrigeration, and mechanical principals
Ability to obtain a security clearance if necessary
Must be a us citizen due to the nature of US Department of Defense clients
